Jazz Piano Instructor 

​​Private Lessons -  With potential to lead the Jazz Department

SUMMARY:

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Jazz Piano Instructor to teach private one-on-one lessons to students of all ages and levels. This part-time teaching position offers potential for growth into the role of Head of the Jazz Department for a candidate who not only demonstrates musical and instructional excellence, but who is also committed to helping us grow and strengthen our Jazz program.

The ideal candidate will be a skilled jazz pianist with a deep understanding of improvisation, jazz theory, and performance, as well as a desire to mentor students and actively contribute to the school’s musical community.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach private jazz piano lessons, in-person or online, tailored to individual student needs

  • Instruct students in jazz improvisation, theory, ear training, comping, and stylistic interpretation

  • Develop personalized lesson plans and assign appropriate practice materials

  • Track student progress and prepare students for performances, auditions, or evaluations

  • Collaborate with school faculty on recitals and student showcases

  • (Future role) Contribute to the development of the Jazz Department’s curriculum, student recruitment, and mentorship of other instructors

To be considered for the future Head of Jazz Department role, the candidate must demonstrate long-term commitment to the growth and leadership of the program.

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced proficiency in jazz piano and improvisation

  • Strong understanding of jazz harmony, rhythm, and performance practices

  • Experience teaching private lessons across various skill levels

  • Excellent communication, motivational, and organizational skills

  • Degree in Jazz Studies, Piano Performance, or equivalent experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience leading ensembles or jazz programs

  • Ability to teach multiple jazz styles (bebop, swing, Latin, fusion, etc.)

  • Familiarity with music notation software and digital tools for teaching

  • Prior experience in a leadership or curriculum development role is a plus

COMPENSATION

  • $40–$50 per hour, based on experience and teaching credentials

  • Flexible teaching schedule

Voice Instructor 

​​Private & Group Lessons -  With potential to lead the Voice Department

SUMMARY:

New York Music Center is seeking a passionate and experienced Voice Instructor to teach private one-on-one lessons to students ages 5 through adult. This part-time teaching position offers strong potential for growth into the role of Head of the Voice Department for a candidate who not only demonstrates musical and instructional excellence, but who is also committed to helping us grow and strengthen our voice program.

The ideal candidate is a versatile vocalist with the ability to teach both classical voice and modern styles or musical theatre, and who values mentorship, student development, and active participation in a collaborative musical community.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach private voice lessons, in-person, tailored to individual student goals and levels

  • Emphasize healthy vocal technique, musicality, and expressive performance

  • Prepare students for recitals, auditions, or evaluations as appropriate

  • Develop personalized lesson plans and assign practice materials

  • Collaborate with other faculty for student showcases and performance opportunities

  • (Future role) Contribute to the development of the Voice Department curriculum, student recruitment, and mentorship of junior instructors

To be considered for the future Head of Voice Department role, the candidate must demonstrate long-term commitment to the growth and leadership of the program.

  • Strong vocal technique and ability to teach across styles (classical, contemporary, musical theatre)

  • Experience teaching private lessons to students of varying ages and skill levels

  • Excellent communication, motivational, and organizational skills

  • Degree in Voice Performance, Vocal Pedagogy, or equivalent experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in performance preparation and vocal coaching

  • Familiarity with vocal health and age-appropriate repertoire

  • Ability to teach basic musicianship or lead small group classes

  • Prior experience in a leadership or curriculum development role is a plus

COMPENSATION

  • $40–$50 per hour, based on experience and teaching credentials.

Assistant Director

      SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

​​

  • Highly Organized.

  • Task-oriented.

  • Excellent verbal and communication skills.

  • Ability to work under tight deadlines in a fast paced environment.

  • Knowledge of design and photo / video editing applications, Google Drive, Microsoft Office. Comfortable with web tools and social media management.

  • Interest in classical music  and arts (preferred)

       -  High School Diploma.  

       -  Bachelor’s degree in Arts Administration, Arts Education, Community Engagement, Music, or related field (preferred).

JOB TYPE: INTERNSHIP

Notable candidates are individuals who are very organized, great communicators, hardworking, creative, take initiative, work well in fast-paced environments under pressure, and are enthusiastic about working in the classical music industry.

Exact dates for the internship start are flexible and will be worked out later on in the application process, although we are looking for someone to start as soon as possible. Furthermore, we are open to college student applications - so if you can only work a few days a week because of class conflicts that is fine too.
