Born and raised in San Francisco, now based in NYC, Gabriel Schillinger-Hyman performs with distinguished jazz musicians at household New York City jazz venues including The Django, Ornithology, The Harlem Jazz Museum, Chelsea Table and Stage, Cellar Dog, and more.

 

Since his move to NYC, Gabriel has performed alongside internationally acclaimed musicians Christopher Mcbride (featured soloist and contributor on GRAMMY - winning album by Steven Feifke), Tim Green, Lucas Pino (Artistic director - Brubeck Jazz Summit), April Varner (2023 Ella Fitzgerald Vocal Competition Winner), Erena Terakubo (Jon Faddis All-Star Big Band, Kenny Barron Quartet, Mingus Big Band…etc), Alexandra Ridout (Parliamentary Jazz Awards Nominee), Tyreek McDole (2023 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition Winner), and more.

Gabriel showcases a catalogue of original music, jazz standards, and arrangements of works by Bill Evans, Chick Corea, Thelonious Monk, Duke Ellington, Cedar Walton, Keith Jarret and more, honoring the history of these master pianists with performances that are soulful and hard-hitting. Gabriel’s playing, composition, arranging, and producing is also entrenched in Gospel, Reggae, Hip Hop, and Latin/Afro-Cuban traditions.

Gabriel holds a Master’s Degree in Jazz Piano Performance from the Manhattan School of Music and has received personal mentorship and taken lessons from some of the best jazz artists in the world, including Sullivan Fortner, Jon Faddis, Phil Markowitz, Marc Cary, Elio Villafranca, Ted Rosenthal, and Jeremy Manasia. Gabriel obtained a Bachelor of Arts from Brown University with Phi Beta Kappa honors, the Mitchell Baker ‘90 Music Scholar Award, and the William F. Fichter Prize.
