Renato Diz is a pianist, composer, producer, researcher, educator, and transdisciplinary artist based in New York.
Born in Portugal, he holds a Bachelor's in Classical Music from ESMAE-P.Porto, a Master’s in Music from NYU (Summa Cum Laude) and a Doctorate in Musical Arts from the University of Miami.
He has performed internationally as a pianist/keyboardist with leading jazz, experimental, and classical artists such as Gilad Hekselman, Roy Hargrove, Miguel Zénon, Bria Skonberg, Maria Schneider, Ari Hoenig, Melissa Aldana, Steve Turre, John Benitez, Linda Briceño, Badal Roy, Scott Robinson, Anat Cohen, Gregg Field, Oscar Avillés, Camille Thurman, Randy Brecker, Lisa Fisher, Patti Austin, among others.
Renato released seven recordings as co-leader/pianist/composer/producer through his label W&J Productions and participated in over 30 others.
His artistic research includes music performance, poetry, photography, film, improvisation, extended techniques, and sound design. He has composed for film, dance, and collaborated on numerous intermedia projects worldwide. As an educator with two decades of experience, he has lectured extensively in institutions across the US, Europe, Africa, and South America on subjects such as piano performance, musical performance optimization techniques, improvisation, composition, arranging, and music theory.
